If you travel via plane at all, then you’ve surely been asked to apply for a credit card to earn free travel miles and flights at least once. In addition, you’ve probably received plenty of marketing collateral from creditors offering free perks that range anywhere from free trips to free meals to cash back rebates and rewards if you apply and get approved for their credit card (and after you’ve made a certain amount of purchases on their card!).
At the apparent face value, some of these offers are tempting and hard to turn down. However, it’s imperative to read the fine print and fees associated with these offers, because in many cases, the creditor tacks on some hefty annual, balance transfer, interest and additional fees to recoup the cost of the rewards offered. Fees to evaluate and compare include the following:
-Balance transfer fee
-Cash advance fee
In a nutshell, today’s message is short and sweet: when applying for a credit card of any sort, be sure to look over the fees and interest rate, as well as the terms and conditions of the card and how you earn rewards and perks, before signing on the dotted (or electronic) line. You want to make sure the perks and rewards offered outweigh the costs associated with the card. Sometimes they do, but often, they don't. :)
